Find Your People

Somewhere along the trail, strangers stop feeling like strangers.

All Are Welcome

You don’t need a crew to show up. That’s kind of the point.

Memories

The kind of days you’ll still be talking about years from now.

The People Behind It

Meet the crew

It started with Barrett organizing local hikes and inviting people to join him. Over time, more people showed up, friendships formed, and Real Adventures grew into something much bigger than those first hikes.

Today, a small crew works alongside him to keep it moving. We plan what’s next, host adventures, and continue to grow what Real Adventures has become.

Built by adventurers

Real Adventures is run by people who’d be doing this anyway.

Here for the people

Bringing people together has always been just as important as where we go.

Finding Home in a New Place

I had recently moved from Canada and didn’t really know anyone, so I was looking for a way to meet people and hopefully connect with others who shared similar interests. I decided to go to the hike solo, and I’m really glad I did! Real Adventures AZ gave me the opportunity to meet some amazing people and find a community that made Arizona feel a little more like home.

Memories that stayed with me

Watching the sunrise from the peak was unforgettable, but what made the trip special was the people. The guide created such a welcoming atmosphere that even solo travelers felt like part of the group from day one.

FAQ

Good to Know Before You Go

From what to bring to what to expect, here are a few things to know before joining us.

From packing lists to trail difficulty, here's everything you need to feel prepared for your hike.

What age group usually comes?

Most people who join us are between 21 and 38, but there’s no set age range. Everyone is welcome. If an adventure has a specific age requirement, we’ll make that clear in the event details.

Can I come by myself?

Absolutely. A lot of people come to their first Real Adventures event without knowing anyone. You don’t need to bring a friend or already know someone in the group to join us.

Do I need to be an experienced hiker?

Not necessarily. We welcome all paces and experience levels, but every hike is different. Check the distance, elevation gain, difficulty, and event details before signing up to make sure the hike is within your ability.

What should I bring?

What you need depends on the adventure, so always check the event details first. For most Arizona hikes, come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and proper footwear. We typically recommend around 3 liters of water for longer hikes.

How do meetups and carpools work?

After signing up, you’ll get the details for where and when to meet. We often coordinate carpools in the group chat, or you can meet everyone directly at the trailhead.
